Motors Earn A Replay

Vauxhall started the strongest, it nearly payed off in the third minute when Mike Kinsella launched a massive kick up the field that went straight into the path of new signing Paul Robertson, whose attempt went narrowly past the post and out for a goal kick.

After some good attacks from the visitors, it was the hosts who were first to make a mark on the game. What most people thought was another defensive error from Motors', it proved to be a strong sun that prevented Kevin Lynch from heading clear as Mark Sale rose above him to head Alfreton into the lead on 29 minutes.

Despite being a goal down, Vauxhall did not give up and kept battling on. They were almost rewarded with an equaliser until the upright came to Town's rescue as Peter Cumiskey thought he had scored.

Half Time: Alfreton Town 1-0 Vauxhall Motors

The Motormen came back out in the same fashion as in the first half and continuing to create opportunities. Vauxhall had the majority of possession, and Alfreton were finding it hard to mount any attacks. Despite Motors' attacks they could quite easily of found themselves 2-0 down, but for a goal line clearance from a defender of a Mark Blount half volleyed effort.

The visitors were at last rewarded with the equaliser, they had four corners in about two minutes. The first three were fired in towards the near post by Hugh Macauley but nothing come of it. The fourth corner was taken differently as Hugh McAuley played it towards Robbie Lawton on the edge of the area, who struck his shot through a whole host of players and into the back of the net. This was Robbie's second goal in two games and looks to be settling into his central role in midfield with ease.

The game finished in a draw as Carl Nesbitt, Paul Robertson and Hugh McAuley failed to trouble the Alfreton shot stopper. On the other hand the last attempt went to the home side but they could not find away through an improved Vauxhall defence and the game ended in a draw.
