Motors Lose |
| The Motormen came into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Barrow last week.
This game was a good chance for The Motormen to score a few goals as Spennymore
United have already conceeded 39 goals in just 18 games.
The game started just as Vauxhall had hoped for when Nicky Young was brought down on the edge of the area by Spennymore's Nicky Mohan. The free kick was taken by Carl Nesbitt who picked out Nicky Young who struck home from eight yards after only three minutes. Vauxhall goalscorer Nicky Young then had a good opportunity of getting himself on the score sheet again and doubling the visitors lead as a through ball from Terry Fearns led to a slip from Hanson, but a block from Mohan denied Young his second of the game. With The Motormen dominating the first half, a cross from the right saw a Terry Fearns header well saved by the Spennymore shot stopper Steven Tierney to prevent the visitors from scoring again. After just over half an hour as Vauxhall were playing well, they conceeded a penalty when Motors' centre half Chris Whelan brought down Danny Brunskill in the area. The resulting spot kick was converted by Jon Cullen who blasted the ball straight past Steve Hilton to put the home side back in it at 1-1. There was one last chance before the first half ended when somehow top goalscorer Terry Fearns managed to place a seemingly easy header over the bar from close range. Half Time: Spennymore United 1-1 Vauxhall Motors Vauxhall came out the much stronger of the two sides when Peter Cumiskey thought he had put Motors in-front only for a great save from Steve Tierney. Not long after, The Motormen created another chance but Peter Cumiskey was once again denied by an acrobatic save from the very impressive Steven Tierney. It was not Vauxhall's day as all game they out played their opposition, but you have to finish the chances you get, and this was exactly what Hanson did from a corner by Cullen that no Motors player could clear as he struck his shot through a crowd of players and there was no chance for Steve Hilton who was unsighted in the Vauxhall goal. Man of the Match: A good performance from Terry Fearns as he never gave up and was very unlucky not to register his name on the scoresheet Teams: Motors: Hilton, Ward, Rigby, Lynch, Whelan, Robinson, Nesbitt, Lawton, Fearns, Young, Cumiskey. Full Time: Spennymore United 2-1 Vauxhall Motors |
| Next up for The Motormen sees them play another newly promoted team when Radcliffe Borough make the trip to Rivacre Park on Tuesday night. |
