Motors Exit The Cup |
| Vauxhall Motors were unable to repeat another great F.A Cup this year as they crashed to
UniBond rivals Bradford Park Avenue. All they had to do was win this game and they would of been
in the first round proper for the second time in as many years.
The Motormen came out and started to create chances straight away. They were rewarded inside the opening quarter of an hour when Motors' top scorer Terry Fearns made a good run into the box and shown good vision as he picked out an unmarked Robbie Lawton who converted with ease from all of eight yards. As Vauxhall pushed on for another they were hit on the break as the ball found itself in the path of Ex-Chester striker Robbie Painter who was 20 yards out and drove a low shot that that was good enough to beat Ralph on 34 minutes and find the back of the net. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the half both teams were staying strong in defence and no more chances were created. Half Time:Vauxhall Motors 1-1 Bradford Park Avenue The visitors dominated the opening 20 minutes and were easily breaking down attacks from the home side. Bradford struck again on 68 minutes much to the delight of the "noisy" crowd as Andy Ralph had a moment to forget when Craig Smith hit what looked like an easy shot to save but it slipped under the hands of The Motormen's shot stopper. The hosts then new if they wanted to at least send this tie into extra time they would have to throw men forward. They did this very well but to no great effect as they were unable to create anything in the last third of the pitch. Vauxhall then had a good opportunity to draw level when a corner from the right was hit long by Robbie Lawton towards the back post but Kevin Lynch just headed wide. The home side were caught on the counter attack as most of their players were at the other end of the pitch. Bradford Park Avenue then ensured it would be their name in the hat for the first round proper as Stephen Oleksewycz tapped in from close range just a minute from time. Full Time:Vauxhall Motors 1-3 Bradford Park Avenue Man of the Match: Robbie Lawton for an all round good performance throughout the game. |
