Hats My Boy

The Motormen introduced Runcorn to Rivacre Park as they looked to bounch straight back from the defeat at Worksop Town. This was Vauxhall's first home game after the departure of Alvin McDonald to Northwich Victoria. Paul Rowland was the caretaker manager for the second time and found this game a little easier than the previous one.

The home side came out the sharper and dominated the opening stages of the game and were promptly rewarded with a free kick from Carl Nesbitt was met by the head of Lee Kissock to claim his first league goal for the club.

Runcorn had a chance to level the score when Chris Price's 20 yard effort came back off the post and ensured Motors a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Half Time:

Vauxhall Motors 1-0 Runcorn FC Halton

The visitors came out the stronger after the break, but failed to beat the in-form stopper Andy Ralph. Lee Kissock turned hero once again with an off-the-line clearance from a Linnets corner.

The Motormen doubled their advantage, and put themselves clearly in the driving seat, as Peter Cumiskey picked the ball up on the left and made a diagonal run to the right edge of the box and blasted an unstoppable shot straight passed Tony McMillan in the Runcorn goal.

On 61 minutes "Wacker" did it again, if you thought his first goal was good the second was even better. A pass from Carl Nesbitt to Peter Cumiskey on the left, cut inside before fireing a superb 25 yard shot that hit the post and went in with McMillan routed to the spot.

The Motormen then denied the visitors a consilation as John Norman cleared a header from Price of the line.

There was now just 9 minutes remaining in the game but enough time for Terry Fearns to hit is first of a hat-trick as he tapped in from close range after some poor defending from the visitors.

Two minutes later as if 4-0 wasn't enough it was soon 5-0 as striker Fearns recieved a pass from Carl Nesbitt who turned towards goal and struck a low shot that flew past McMillan.

Finally, to cap of an excellent team performance Terry Fearns grabbed his third hat-trick of the campaign as Kevin Lynch set up him up for a shot that struck the inside of the near post and into the back of the net. Three good goals from the goal-machine and three important points.
