| The Motormen came into this clash wanting to put the derby
disappointment of Bank Holiday Monday behind them. Bradford Park Avenue
won all six points over Motors last season, and proved they would make Motors work for their points.
Motors gave a debut to midfield player John Norman. Vauxhall started the game brighter of the two, but didn't quite have that cutting edge. Motors left-sided star Peter Cumiskey looked sharp and was creating all the chances unfortunately the striking duo of Fearns and Young could not finish. Bradford always looked a threat on the break, and a handful of chances went begging by the Yorkshire outfit, Bradford continued to take the game by the scruff of the neck, so to speak, from the 20th minute. The dead-lock was finally broken just after the half hour mark Steve Oleksewycz played the ball to Danny Walsh who slotted past the Manchester born shot stopper Andy Ralph. Hopes that the goal would provide awake up call were dashed little than five minutes later when, Andy Quinn crossed from the wing and found Andy Hayward for a pin point headed goal past Ralph. Motors were not playing to the standard expected after such an impressive pre-season, passes in the last third of the field were given away to easily Half Time: Vauxhall Motors 0-2 Bradford Park Avenue When Vauxhall came out for the second half know one could have predicted what would happen in the next 45 minutes. What was probably their worst half of football in a long time was followed by one of the best half's ever. Peter Cumiskey who looked a big threat even at two down broke down the left and provided an inch perfect cross for Terry Fearns to head past Bradford No.1 Matthew Boswell. Just before the hour mark Peter Cumiskey got his name on the score sheet by collecting the ball and striking a 25 yard strike to the right hand side of Boswell. In the 73rd minute Cumiskey struck again this time from 18 yards. At 3-2 there was a worry BPA could pull one back especially with the best of 15 minutes still to play. Ralph played an exceptional half and kept Hayward and Maxwell at bay. Terry Fearns broke free of the Bradford defence and looked to be 1 on 1 with Howe, but for esception speed from Carl Nesbitt to pull up along side Fearns, Fearns gave it to Nesbitt who slotted past the helpless Boswell. Seconds later Fearns grabbed his second of the day and Motors' fifth by placing it past Boswell. The game was finished off in injury time with Terry Fearns taking his first hat-trick of the season by placing it into Boswell's bottom right corner from six yards out. The second half left Motors fans wandering if they had been dreaming or Vauxhall actually brought a 0-2 deficit back to a 6-2 hammering. Full Time : Vauxhall Motors 6-2 Bradford Park Avenue
