Pete "Wackers" The Winner |
| The home side came out the blocks the brighter of the two. Motors midfielder Carl
Nesbitt picked out the run of "Joiner" Derek Ward who fired his shot across the goal but
luckly for the visiting team the ball was dealt with and a corner the resulting outcome.
Nesbitt took the corner which was headed clear by defender Sean Hazelden.
Wakefield broke soon afterwards but were denied any sort of opportunity when Motors' defender Mike Tomlinson commited a foul and a free kick was rewarded. From the free kick Kris Bowler stepped up and crossed the ball into the Motors penalty area but Scott Bairstowe was unable to direct his header passed Andy Ralph. Wakefield dominated the next few minutes that led tostriker Simeon Bambrook see his shot comfortably saved by the 6'2 shot stopper Andy Ralph. A good Motors move saw good link up play between Liverpudlian born star Wayne McDermott, midfield rock Kevin Lynch and Peter "Wacker" Cumiskey, whose cross was just to far for Terry Fearns to connect with a header and instead the visitors cleared behind for a corner. The Motormen continued to pressure that produced a ball wide to the left by Terry Fearns but unfortunately skipper Kevin Lynch was unable to pick out a Motors head. Terry Fearns continued as a play maker and this time set-up striking partner Nicky Young who found his shot land straight into the hands of the awaiting goalkeeper. Next up in the match found Kevin Lynch play an inch perfect cross field pass to Cumiskey over on the left who ran into the Wakefield penalty area, but fortunatly for the Yorkshire outfit he failed to pick out a cross and no trouble was caused as shot stopper Paul Cuss collected with ease. Midway through the half Terry Fearns twisted and turned the Wakefield defence inside out before Peter Cumiskey scuffed his shot straight at Cuss. Then the home side thought they had broken the deadlock when a free kick straight from the training ground saw Carl Nesbitt play the ball to the side of the wall where Nicky Young latched onto the pass and struck the ball across the goal, and Terry Fearns tapped home from close range. It was promptly disallowed by the Staffordshire born referee much to the confusion of the majority in Rivacre Park. Motors did however draw first blood when Peter Cumiskey's strong run was followed by a well struck shot that flew passed Wakefield & Emley number 1 Paul Cuss. Half Time:Vauxhall Motors 1-0 Wakefield & Emley Straight from the off Terry Fearns went on an excellent run ploughing his way through the Emley half before teeing up Nicky Young who was denied by Paul Cuss. Then came the first yellow card of the game as Mr R. Merchant booked Kevin Lynch for a poorly timed challenge on Liam Chapman. Vauxhall had the chance to perhaps seal all 3 points when Carl Nesbitt's shot was charged down from 18 yards out Terry Fearns was unlucky not to register his name on the score sheet. Motors were then rewarded a free kick for a foul on former Christie Park star Craig Robinson. A trip down memory lane would remind you of the fantastic goal Nicky Young scored against T.N.S, but this time he was denied by a strong Emley wall. The home side were still in search for a second to kill the game off. They could have scored when some good silky skill from Nicky Young as he flicked the ball to midfielder Carl Nesbitt who picked out Cumiskey in the penalty area who seen his shot well saved by Paul Cuss. The visitors then mounted their first attack of the second half as Rob Tonks crossed into Danny Clapham who headed just wide of the post. Motors manager Alvin McDonald decided to bring a fresh pair of legs on which saw Peter Cumiskey come off for the versitile Robbie Lawton who slotted into the left midfield position. A couple of minutes later saw The Motormen make their second change of the afternoon as skipper Kevin Lynch walked as Neil McCann was the player entering the pitch. The captain's armband went to Nicky Young. Wakefield could of snatched a late equaliser when Kris Bowler's shot was well saved by the in-form Andy Ralph. Emley made their first and last sub in order for an equaliser to take a point back to Belle Vue. Tom Cudworth was replaced for Ian Twitchen. Deep into injury time and what proved to be the last attack of the game Robbie Lawton ran all the way through the Emley defence and decided to go all alone despite seeing Terry Ferans in space. His shot however was just wide of Paul Cuss' left hand post. Full Time:Vauxhall Motors 1-0 Wakefield & Emley Vauxhall Motors manager Alvin McDonald told www.vauxhallmotors.tk "I felt we deserved the win, I always felt we were trying to get the second goal to finish the game. At the moment we just can't seem to score, which as never really been a problem at the club.
