Fearns Late Strike Seals Victory

Vauxhall Motors finished their pre-season campaign with a victory over local opposition Christleton.

Vauxhall controlled the opening stages of the game. The first opportunity fell to the visitors when central defender Mike Tomlinson's shot pulled out a good save from Christleton keeper Robby Glover.

After just three minutes the visitors broke the deadlock when Chris Whelan played a good through ball to Peter Cumiskey who struck the ball into an empty net.

On 37 minutes Motors had a great chance to double their 1-0 advantage when Neil McCann wad upended by Christleton shot stopper Robby Glover. From the resulting spot kick Peter Cumiskey failed to continue his 100% penalty scoring record when it was saved.

It was Vauxhall that remained on top for the rest of the halfand should of had the game wrapped up only for some poor finishing.

Half Time:Christleton 0-1 Vauxhall Motors

After the break The West Cheshire outfit capitilised on Motors' squandered chances by drawing level five minutes into the second half, as Matty Woodward struck a shot passed substitute keeper Hilto who was brough on for Andy Ralph at Half Time.

Substitutes Niel McCann and Terry Fearns both went close, but failed to restore The Motormens lead. Wayne McDermott also tried his luck, but failed top hit the target.

When it looked like Christleton's Stubbon defence would hold on for a draw, summer recruit Lee Kissock and Stuart Wright linked up well on the left and Wright played the ball to Fearns who found the net from 12 yards, It was Terry's second goal in as many games.

Motors kick off their bid for promotion by travelling North to Lancaster's Giant Axe Stadium. The Vauxhall Motors Supporters Association is organising a coach for the trip. If you want to book your place on the coach then please contact Ian Cowell on 0151 625 7491.
