Motors Leave it Late Again!!!
By Andrew Nixon
April 7 2003
After two late goals against Stalybridge, they left it late again when they played Harrogate.
Both sides had early chances with James Turley going close for the hosts. The Motormen responded well at the other end with Peter Cumiskey also going close a few minutes later.

Mark Smith playing his last match before a 3 match ban broke the deadlock heading home from a Stuart Elliott corner. Immediately after Smith struck again when Scott Bansell's ran into The Motormen's area and played it to Mark Smith who got his second of the afternoon on 13 minutes.

Andy Ralph then kept The Motormen in the game by pulling off an excellent save from an Elliott free kick on the half hour mark. HT 2-0

Harrogate started the second half hoping to pull off the first ever win over The Motormen.

Harrogate came back out bright when a shot from Colin Hunter beat Ralph but fortunately for Vauxhall Craig Robinson cleared the ball off the line. This proved to be a wake up call for Vauxhall if they were to maintain there brilliant record against the hosts.

Nicky Young then broke clear for The Motormen following some good pressure from the visiting side and pulled one back in the 77th minute.

Then 3 minutes from time Vauxhall piled on the pressure and were rewarded with a Kevin Lynch back post header from a Peter Cumiskey corner.

Dave Merris then almost earned Harrogate all three points in injury time but was denied by another great save from Ralph.
