The Southend Evening Echo is reporting that Southend manager Steve Tilson is hopeful that skipper Kevin Maher, defender Lewis Hunt and winger Lee Bradbury will soon be putting pen to paper on new contracts. The full article reads as follows.

Blues boss Steve Tilson has been boosted by the news that skipper Kevin Maher, defender Lewis Hunt and winger Lee Bradbury will definitely soon be signing two year contracts to stay with the Championship club.

The trio are all currently away on holiday but Tilson has confirmed they will all be putting pen to paper at Roots Hall when they return.

"It's more good news for us because they were all key players for us at the end of last season," said the Seasiders chief.

"They all did a good job and they are players we certainly didn't want to lose so it's we're obviously really pleased they will be in our squad again for next season when we go into the Championship."

Maher, 29, is the longest serving player at Roots Hall having joined Blues from Tottenham Hotspur in January 1998 and his latest two year deal will include a testimonial which will be played in 2008.

Hunt's versatility has also proved vital during his three seasons with the Shrimpers, while Bradbury proved to be another good signing when he arrived from Oxford United on transfer deadline day in January.

"Kevin is a key player for us and Lewis and Lee both did a really good job towards the end of last year," added Tilson.

"They were keen to stay and continue the good work we've already achieved and it's great that everything has been sorted out."
