Tredegar Town  2

Welsh League Division 2
Saturday October 29th, 2005

Tredegar returned home to Gwent after securing a point with the last kick of the game at a wet Stafford Common on Saturday.

The home side had taken the lead through Ashley Richards after just 57 seconds but Tredegar equalised early in the second-half. Former Swansea City player Andy Mumford, who had a spell at Village last season, looked to have secured the win a few minutes before the end but Town popped up with a late leveller.

Said Village boss Bob Lloyd: "I'm not really disappointed about the result because Tredegar deserved to get something out of the game.

"We had a dream of a start scoring in 57 seconds with Ashley Richards, but Tredegar weren't happy about it because Craig Blake was coming back from an offside position, but now with these mad rules on offside Ashley ran from an on-side position to score.

"The game itself was played in terrible conditions; it started raining about 1.30pm and together with the wind it didn't stop all game. At 1-0 playing with the condition in our favour I hoped we would take advantage but to their credit Tredegar battled well and equalised very shortly into the second-half.

"The introduction of Andrew Mumford and Jack Jenkins did spark a little bit of life, but I must say we were very shot shy in front of goal. A big disappointment as we targeted that area especially with the dreadful conditions.

"Three minutes from time what we needed all second half happened when Andrew Mumford's 25-yard shot flew into the bottom corner of the net to give us a led that we didn't deserve. The one big disappointment for me is that at that stage we had enough experience on the field to kill the game off, something we didn't do and resulted in the visitors scoring in the dying seconds of injury time."
