Garden Village AFC
'Good Old Days' - Part 1
By Webmaster, Garden Village AFC - June 1 2004
This is the first of many old Garden Village match reports on this site to appear in the new 'Good Old Days' section. Click to read the report on our thrashing of Ystalyfera 7 years ago, then still just a local league side. >
YSTALYFERA 0 - 13 VILLAGE

WEST WALES INTERMEDIATE CUP 2nd ROUND
1996/1997

Garden Village, a club with strong designs on the Carmarthenshire League title, were certainly in a good hungry mood as they hammered Neath League side Ystalyfera in the Evening Post West Wales Intermediate Cup second round.

Striker Phil Bell started the rout after 15 minutes from a Matthew Evans cross.

This was followed by quick-fire goals from Nicky Romanello, midfielder Phil Reynolds and two more from Bell to complete his hat-trick.

The Villagers romped to a seven goal lead by half-time through an own goal and a superb individual effort from Reynolds for his second.

Village manager Bob Lloyd decided to give all three substitutes a run out following the interval.

Substitute Mike Neal made his presence felt immediately by increasing the lead with his first touch of the ball, heading home a cross from fellow sub Ross Evans.

The lively Neal proved a real handful up front for the Ystalyfera defence as he netted two more to complete a well taken hat-trick.

There was no respite for the home side as further goals flowed from Adrian Brown (2) and Adrian Guardelli.

VILLAGE: Ward, Devoy, Short, Lyn, Lewis, Reynolds, Guardelli, Romanello, M.Evans, Brown, Bell.

SUBS: R.Evans, Black, Neal.
