| The Football Association is delighted
to be taking a high profile women’s match to the West Country. Participation
in girls’ football is booming in the area and it boasts two clubs from
The FA Nationwide Premier League – Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.
Previously, the England women’s team played an international against Switzerland in May 2000 at Bristol Rovers’ Memorial Stadium attracting 3,500 fans. The Premier League Cup Final will follow on from another flagship women’s fixture in the area, with Bristol Rovers facing Fulham at the Memorial Ground, Bristol, in the FA Cup semi-final on March 23rd. Swindon Town Chief Executive Mark Devlin said: “Everyone at Swindon Town FC is delighted that the County Ground will be hosting this match. “We hope it will be another stepping stone to help women’s football grow in popularity as a spectator sport within the local area. The game will also offer us the opportunity to develop our links with girls and women’s clubs within the community. I hope the match will be a successful event.” The match will also offer a fantastic opportunity to FA Partners for Women’s Football Nationwide Building Society, who have their head offices in Swindon. Nationwide will be working with their staff and in the local community to promote the game as a fun family day out. Entertainment will be on offer before the game,
including Nationwide’s ‘Hotshots’ Fulham are the current holders of the Premier League Cup, after beating Birmingham City 7-1 in last season’s Final. This year’s Final will be a much tighter game, however, with league champions Arsenal having won the competition a record six times in 11 years. Head of Women’s Football Karen Doyle added:
“We are looking forward to hosting this flagship cup final at Swindon
Town and to provide the opportunity for the local football community to
see women’s football “We are very excited about coming to the home town of Nationwide, our partners for women’s football, and we look forward to working with them to make a great day out for all the family on Mother’s Day. Nationwide has a big presence within the local community and this is a great way for them to show their support.” Tickets went on sale on Monday 17th February from
Swindon Town’s ticket hotline on 01793 333777. Tickets cost £3
for adults and £1 for children, with
