The Italian was able to stay ahead of the Williams BMW of Ralf Schumacher and the Jaguar of Mark Webber who surprised setting the third best time just over 0.2 seconds faster than Trulli.
David Coulthard and Barrichello were able to stay in front of Alonso with Panis finishing 7th ahead of Montoya and Michael Schumacher. Kimi Raikkonen had a bad session finishing 12th behind the 2 Saubers.
It was a session with lots of differences between teammates. Trulli was 0.6 seconds faster than Alonso; Ralf Schumacher 0.9 seconds faster than Montoya; Barrichello edged Michael by 0.5 seconds and Coulthard was able to put 0.9 seconds between him and Raikkonen.
The session was also quite competitive as 9 drivers finished within one second.
Out of the top 10, only Barrichello, Michael and Heidfeld were running with Michelin tyres what shows that the French maker still holds the edge over Japanase Bridgestone.
