Clowne Town V West Hallam
Aubrey The Hero as Clowne Bat out Against Hallam! 05/07/03 At Clowne
Phil Bennett won the toss and asked West Hallam to bat on a wet wicket which looked as though it would favor the bowlers. It was West Hallam however who started the better with Haggerty playing some powerful strokes off the front foot as the Clowne bowlers Ian Parsons and Steve Bennett struggled. Bennett was clearly feeling his injured ankle and was soon replaced by Aubrey Ashley, Parsons however continued to wheel away and produced a tidy spell of 9-2-29-0. Ashley soon set about turning the match on it's head first he removed Haggerty caught by Len Wright for 45 then had Matt Brown caught again at gulley by the same player. Matt Linacre then got in on the act taking a superb catch to dismiss Frost again off Ashley, Clarkson fell caught low down at first slip by Phil Bennett and Steve Bennett pouched Phil Palfreyman at this point Ashley had all five of the wickets to go down, he finished an inspired spell with 14-3-25-5. Josh Womble had meanwhile been bowling a tidy spell of leg spin at the other end and it was he who removed opener and perpetual thorn in Clowne's side Rob Palfreyman for 31 caught by Parsons, he quickly added the usually barnacle like Brian Bostock for 2 as Clowne took total control. A few lusty blows from Paul Daws(23) took West Hallam over the 120 mark before Matt Linacre(3-0-7-2) and the returning Steve Bennett (8.2-0-28-1) blew away the tail.

West Hallam 128 all out
Clowne's reply got off to a poor start with Chris Hendley bowled by Lockhart for a duck and Phil Bennett running Graham White out also without scoring and from then on things went downhill fast. Len Wright(4) bowled Lockhart, Steve Bennett(4) lbw bowled Brown and Paul Osborne(4) bowled Lockhart continued the procession. A few lusty blows from Mark Osborne briefly threatened to turn the tide but he fell bowled by Daws for 12 and when Phil Bennett(9) finally lost patience and holed out to cover things looked very bleak.
When top scorer Parsons and Matt Linacre got out then the game was as good as lost with the last pair at the wicket and Clowne on 62-9. However cricket is a funnygame and remarkably the last pair bowling hero Aubrey Ashley and Josh Womble saw off all West Hallam could throw at them and held out for an unlikely draw.
