Airdrie United got off to a flyer today, all the early pressure came from the Diamonds in the early stages of the game, and it resulted in Airdrie United getting the first goal of the match.

The Queen of the South defence did not clear a Graeme Holmes shot and Garry Twigg latched on to the ball and fired it home. Six minutes on the clock and Airdrie were one – nil up and comfortable, would this be a repeat of our 4 – 0 home win against Queens earlier in the season.
As usual Airdrie United had some good passing play but with very little penetration in the last eighth of the pitch.
We defended well as a whole but still had time to make some wayward passes and launch some long ball attacks that were never going to beat the Queen of the South defence.
Queen of the South had a goal disallowed late in the first half after Lee Hollis in was bundled of the ball.

The turning point of the game came in the second half, Stewart Taylor replaced Paul Lovering who had been suffering from an injury, and we switched to a back three where we lost a lot of our shape.
Queen of the South then reverting to the only attack we cannot defend against, the long ball.
Lee Hollis pulled off an excellent double save from John O'Neil and Willie Gibson early in the second.
Queen of the south finally made the break through during a period of the game where they had five corners in a row; the final corner resulted in Graham Weir firing home after the Airdrie defence failed to clear the ball.
Honours even after ninety minutes and Airdrie have secured first division football for the second year running.

Mr Collum had a decent enough first half but many of his decision in the second half had no consistency.

Man of the Match

Hollis A very good game with some good saves, still needs to command his box more.
McKenna A decent game against a tough opponent.
McGowan Had an excellent game today and didn't put a foot wrong
McManus Good strong display from Allan
Lovering Good display by Lovering . Before going off early on injured.
Dunn A decent display in mid-field early on, later in the game he seemed to disappear.
Holmes I can still see a lot of potential in Holmes and a decent future ahead for him.
McLaren A good display until his legs went.
McDougall The usual classy midfield and defence splitting runs but with very little defensive attributes, taken out of the match at every opportunity.
Twigg Did well through out the game and took his goal well.
Prunty Worked tirelessly as usual but wasn't given much chance to play.
Taylor Did alright but is still not match fit
Coyle No time to make a difference
Docherty. No time to make a difference
