Hamilton and Billy Reid take the honours this season as the teams share three draws and a Hamilton win. Today's game was a dull boring end of season affair that did absolutely nothing to encourage fans through the gates.
Where do you start with a game like this, Billy Reid's tactics are to snuff out any sort of fluid attacking play and like Clyde last season, Hamilton have managed to master this tactic.
It leads to a bloody boring game and yesterday's match was bloody boring. A harsh word or tackle may have made the game more exciting but no not today.
Paul Lovering had an early chance for the Airdrie when he fired wide after being put clean through on goal by Willie McLaren.
David McEwan kept Brian McPhee out mid-way through the first half in what seemed like a great chance to break the deadlock.
But it was Hamilton who would come closest to scoring, late in the half. A corner was not cleared inside the penalty area and only a last-ditch header by Kevin Barkey avoided an own goal by Stephen McKenna.
Four minutes after the interval Airdrie had a golden opportunity to break the dead lock. and we should have taken the lead when an excellent Willie McLaren cross picked out McPhee and his header hit the base of the post to the relief of the Hamilton and Billy Reid.
The game was all a mid-field battle now and until the last ten minutes of the game there were very few chances, but at the last Hamilton could have stolen all the points instead of settling for a point.
A Stephen Thomson header was tipped onto the crossbar by Stephen Robertson before substitute Brian Carrigan struck a ferocious 20-yard volley which crashed against the bar.
