For the second week in a row a minute silence was observed at New Broomfield. This week it was to mark the sad news that Airdrieonians legend , Bobby Flavell had passed away.Bobby graced the Diamond between 1938 and 1947, and had the unique distinction of partnering Stanley Mathews in an Airdrie forward line in a Scottish War Cup Semi final tie against Dundee United.
Who would have believed it ? Before Saturday,Clyde hadn't scored a goal in their last five matches then they go and score four against us. I was expecting to go along to Broomfield and be bored rigid by a Clyde team who sit back and defend deep and hit on the break but to my surprise the first half at least was very entertaining. We have only ourselves to blame for the defeat by the Bully Wee as our defending in the second period was shocking. This might sound like sour grapes but its true , our cause wasn't helped by the incompetence of Mr. Fyffe the ref,who was conned by Clyde's number eight, Gilhaney who quite blatantly dived to win a free kick on the edge of the box which Clyde eventually scored from. Gilhaney you are a cheat,Shame on you.

That's the only way to describe our second half performance today. To be honest though, Clyde weren't much better, they were just gifted four goals. A penalty from some poor defending, a free header, and a tap in from a free kick that was blatantly a dive. Their third was a good finish, but again the through ball should have been dealt with, and you have to question the goalie's positioning. We were good for the first twenty minutes or so, but boy did we miss McManus. McGowan's pretty solid, but he doesn't have the organisational skills of McManus or Docherty. And Christie was simply humming today. He won nothing in the air or on the deck, was constantly pulled out of position, and I've seen milk turn quicker. Not good enough! It's obvious what Billy Reid said to his players at half time (foul and dive, boys!), but I don't know what Sandy said to our lot. After the break most of our players just didn't look interested. I'd only give pass marks to McKenna, Lovering and Gow. If we had taken some of the chances we made when we were 2:1 up, we would have won it. But it wasn't to be. And if that one that Gow hit the post with had gone in, you'd have been looking at goal of the season easily.
