Most Airdrie fans were of the opinion that our match against the Langtoon Rovers should have a routine home win for the Diamonds as Raith are by far the poorest side in the division. But Gordon Dalziel ‘s youngsters had other ideas and to be honest Rovers were a vastly inproved side since we last met in December and can count themselves unlucky not to have gained a point.
Airdrie started the match in a determined fashion and it was pretty much one-way traffic for the first half hour. Although we had the bulk of the possession we could not capitalize on the numerous chances we created. The usually reliable King Coyle passed up two gilt edged opportunities to open the scoring so it was left for the opener to come from the unlikely source of Marvelous Marvyn to score with a powerfully deflected volley that bulged the back of the Kirkaldy men’s net.
There was a rumour going around on Saturday that the reason for Coyle’s goal drought was that he had given up scoring for lent and if this is the case then a certain Mr Hill will be more than happy because by the time Easter comes around there will be only a handful of games left for Oweny to try and reach the twenty goals mark that Willie gave very generous odds for. I know of quite a few Diamonds who are due a tidy sum if Coyle can make it to twenty in all competitions. At the moment he is sitting on 14 so come on Owen sacrifice the Irn-Bru instead and give us some goals.
The Fifers equalized just before the break to give them hope in the second half and it looked likely that the might snatch an unexpected point as the Diamonds made heavy weather of coping with a young enthusiastic Raith side. I have got to hold my hands up here and say that I was critical of Sandy when he replaced Coyle with Dosser as I didn’t see the benefit in the switch but I was made to eat my words as it was Dosser who grabbed the winner in the dying minutes with a fantastic header from a McLaren corner kick to give us an important three point in our quest for first division consolidation

That was a transformed Raith Rovers today. I'm not saying they're world beaters now, but they were certainly miles better than Anelka's duds.
You have to feel sorry for the Raith fans. If it hadn't been for that disasterous experiment the league would have been very interesting this season. You'd probably be looking at anyone from 3rd or 4th down as relegation candidates at this stage in the season.
It's a pity they're pretty much already relegated, because some of their young players looked promising. Hope they bounce back up.
Good performance from young McKenna for us at right back as well.
