Airdrie Vs Raith Rovers preview
By Chris Mac February 18 2005
Airdrie and Sandy Stewart have a six point plan to secure football in the Bells first division the plan involves taking two wins and six points from the next two home matches.  Will this work?

Preview For Saturday, 19th February 2005

Airdrie

V

Raith Rovers

 Sandy Stewart

Gordon Dalziel

Team captain Stephen Docherty returns for this match, we are with out Kevin Christie who is waiting for an appointment for a Scan on his injury. Our first home game against Raith Rovers saw us come away with a 1-1 draw, a disappointing match that we had hoped to take more from.

Sandy Stewart added Stephen McKenna to his arsenal of capable players for the future. It also gives  Sandy a few choices,  does he bring Stephen Docherty straight back into the right defensive position or alternatively does he leave Stephen McKenna in defence drop Mark Roberts and play Stephen Docherty in right mid field where he is most suited?

Does the team need a shake up?

Should players as young as Stephen McKenna be given an extended stay in the first team after he performed so well against Patrick Thistle?

Has Mark Roberts done enough to justify his position in the team over the past few weeks?

Will Stephen Docherty walk straight back into the team captain or not?

Only Sandy and Owen Coyle will know the answers too these questions.

This match could be could be a potential banana skin for Airdrie as a loss could really drag us back in to the relegation zone.

 Opponents News

Gordon Dalziel has Raith Rovers turned around and it may not be a huge leap of the imagination for them to come to us hoping for a win. Since the departure of Claude Anelka there have been many changes to the Raith squad, most of his foreign imports have been cleared out and Dalziel has brought in a lot of young players who are fighting for a chance to prove them selves.

Dalziel has at least two injury worries, player/coach Shaun Dennis is ruled out with a knee injury and Craig O’Reilly is doubtful suffering from a flu bug.

Is it too late for Raith to make a late charge and survive in the first division? They are not out of it yet, well mathematically anyway?
