Bells Scottish 1st Division
3rd October 2004
New Broomfield
The game should have been over in the first half, but Hamilton goal keeper Craig McEwan pulled of some fantastic saves to keep the score even. Martin Hardie and Willie McLaren will be disappointed that their fantastic shots didn't find the back of the net. At 0-0 it still looked liked Airdrie United would have pulled something out of the bag, but the second half proved to be disastrous.
The game was so one sided it took almost 70 minutes for Hamilton to get their first corner in the game, but it was all it would take to rip the heart out of the Airdrie United team. Kevin Christie gave away a corner, the ball in to the box looked tame enough and should have been cleared easily. Instead a free shot for Hamilton Defender Mark McLaughlin and the Accies took the lead. A poor pass in the mid-field allowed Hamilton to get their second soon after. Airdrie United were pushing forward to try and get the equaliser and were left exposed, in an attack that was 3 Vs 2 in Hamilton's favour - a cross to the far post found Scott Tunbridge free, he drilled the ball in to the back of the net and the game was over.
