This dress rehearsal for the Scottish cup tie saw us taking all three points in dramatic fashion with grumpy auld grandpa Smith feeling aggrieved about King Coyle’s injury time clincher.
This match sparked into life just as the first half was about to end when Oor Wullie swept in a sweet shot from a fine cross from Coyle on the 43-minute mark. We just about deserved our lead at the interval, as we were the more creative of the two sides in this cagey affair.
Auld grandpa Smith must have gave his players a rollicking at the break as County looked a completely different outfit in the second half and to be honest I was not surprised when they grabbed a deserved equalizer.
I can’t remember us creating many goalmouth chances in the second period and we can thank our goalie for keeping us in the match with a number of fine saves.
Just when it looked like we were going to have to settle for a share of the points up popped Old King Coyle for his 14th goal of the season to give us all three points and push the Diamonds into fourth place which incidentally is our highest ever league position.
On reflection I think a draw would have been a fair result but we have been unfortunate not to take points in too many games this season the away matches to QoS and Falkirk spring to mind so to take all three points was really satisfying even though I don’t think we deserved them.
