I used the following formula to get the results. Taking it strictly on matches played I gave each manager 3 points for a win 2 points for a draw and 1 point just for being in the job at the time (or a loss).

Unfortunately I can't get many details before 1978. I also know there are many other things to be taken in to consideration, such as matches played in the SPL, performances in cups or getting us in to a certain European competition, but for a Sunday afternoon with nothing better to do, simple was the best option.
