And so this is Christmas and what have we done? Well we seemed to have found our feet in this division and before this Boxing Day encounter we had gone on a fine unbeaten run.

There was much debate among the Diamonds fans about our second visit to Falkirk. With some fans refusing to travel because of the pricing policy for the facilities on offer at Westfield. I have to admit that £15 for a restricted view in a gazebo really borders on the ridiculous. But boxing day football fixtures are as much a part of Christmas as having turkey for yer dinner and I cannot understand why any fan would refuse to go as im sure that most Airdrie fans have been to much worse venues than the gazebo.

We more than matched the champions elect today and it was only slack defending that let us down. Our general play was good and we can count ourselves very unlucky not to have gained a point. On the evidence of our second half display you would never have believed there was an 18-point gap between the sides.

The outstanding dipping shot from Gow which Fergie tipped over the bar and the fantastic run from McLaren, when he beat four defenders only to see his shot turned round the post by the keeper were the highlights of the match from the Diamonds point of view. The fact that their keeper got man of the match says it all really. I’m sure that this will be our last visit to Falkirk for a couple of seasons at least as they are by far the best team in the league and its good to know that we can compete with the best. We have come a long way since our last visit to the gazebo.2004 will be a year that will be long remembered in Airdrie’s history. Airdrie are back and long may the Diamonds shine in 2005.
