Airdrie bring all three points back from Inverness

Date: 3/12/2001 Airdrie came back from Inverness with a valuable win which leaves them 5 points clear at the top of Division One. Goals from Tony Smith and an Owen Coyle penalty sent the Diamonds fans home more than happy.


The AISA bus set off from the Albert Bar at 9.30am for the long trip up to Inverness. In the corresponding fixture last year we were well and truly thrashed 4-0 that day in what was Archibalds last defeat by a football side. You could say that we weren't expecting to just turn up and coast to another fine victory.

We arrived at Smithton, just outside Inverness at around 1pm for a few beers and the usual pie and sausage roll type buffet the landlord lays on for us these days. On to the ground for the game and the Airdrie boys were getting well into the spirit of things by now.

We were without Sandy Stewart and Alan McManus for this game, so Stuart MacDonald was sweeper between Kevin James and Neil MacFarlane. Steve Docherty made his return to the bench. It was another great display by the Diamonds considering the reshuffling again and what looks to be a seriously weakened squad. I believe Dunn and Porno must have been injured as neither featured at all.

This must be giving McCall real nightmares as one or two suspensions or injuries may leave us unable to even have three subs. Something must be done about this urgently before we revert to being the laughing stock again.

It was a good display, a well taken goal by Smith, some good attacking midfield stuff by Taylor again, and as usual real heroics from McFarlane, James and Phergie when we needed them. More of the same next week will do the trick.

This week we've got Ayr down at Somershit Park. I guess we'll have to see how things go this week before making any decisions about going in or not, but regardless AISA will have a bus leaving the Albert at 1pm. Members and non members welcome. Please contact us via the email link on the left.

Onto the takeover, and things have gone dramatically silent from our end. It was reported last week that Todd, Todd and Stevenson from the infamous Innes consortium are trying to buy East Fife now. We knew they wanted out and that Gemmill was trying to facilitate that. The silence from our "supremo" has been deafening.

What we'd like to know is that if these guys now have the freed up capital to make a bid for East Fife, have they now cut all their ties with Airdrie? Who has bought them out if that is the case? A clear statement from Mr.Gemmill or KPMG would not go amiss. After all, we are their customers aren't we?
