Date: 4/11/2000 The fans nightmare week was completed when Alloa took all three points at Recreation Park. The Diamonds now replace Alloa at the foot of the table after a poor performance. The only bit of excitement came from the Airdrie fans when they invaded the pith at full time.

The Diamonds on the park troubles re-appeared today after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Terry Christie's Alloa.

Airdrie started the match without the suspended Fernandez and with Moreau, and Capin on the bench. Sanchez Broto was home in Spain at his Grandmother's 80th birthday.

The home side started the brightest and showed that they were not going to be any pushover and they took the lead on 31mins when poor marking from Airdrie allowed Willie Irvine to sneak past the Airdrie rearguard and slot the ball past trialist keeper, Tom Phillips.

The nearest Airdrie got to a goal in the first half came from midfielder Darren Brady who went on a solo run but watched his final shot go wide.

The Diamonds started the second half with a bit more urgency but seemed to lack a bit of invention in the last third of the park. Archibald introduced McGuire, Ingram and Moreau to try and freshen things but they could still not find the net.

The killer blow came on the 78th minute when Alloa's Ross Hamilton got on the end of a corner to nod the ball into the net.

Airdrie fans invaded the pitch peacefully to show their continued support for Archibald and his men. Archibald showed his appreciation by addressing the fans and thanking them for their continued support through all the troubles.

Airdrie are now sitting at the bottom of the first division and need to start winning games fast or they could find themselves in an impossible position facing relegation.

Steve Archibald announced on radio today that he will be meeting council chiefs and other interested parties on Monday and said the meeting should have a positive outcome.

Airdrie Side: Phillips, Boyce (Moreau 84), McCann, Brady, Forrest, Ireland, Sanjuan, Calderon, Armstrong, Prest (McGuire 64) Elliot ( Ingram 64)
