Airdrie Vs Falkirk Preview 30/10/04
By Chris Mac October 29 2004
These are the fixtures that look so good when we were sitting in the 2nd division last season. Matches against Falkirk and Partick Thistle above all else always seem to have that little bit of added spice.

Match of the  Day
Preview For Saturday, 28th August 2004

Airdrie

V

Falkirk

Sandy Stewart

John Hughes

Airdrie are going to have to fight to gain some credibility after our last disastrous meeting when Falkirk beat us easily 5-0, sorry to remind you all of it but if it helps wind the fans up to get behind the team tomorrow, then i will even go so far as to mention it again. Falkirk beat us 5-0 in our first game against them it's time we the fans were counted.
I am expecting a battle tomorrow, I hope to see Airdrie fighting for every ball and putting a quick halt to any mid-field antics from O'Niel, Nichols and Latapy. This is the back bone of Falkirk's attack and if we can put a stop to them playing were in with a chance. Marvyn Wilson and Martin Hardie have managed to form a formidable partnership in our mid-field and Sandy may yet be proved correct in giving Hardie the time to recuperate that none of the other Bells First Division teams that looked at him were willing to give him.
This game is important in another respect, in November we have games away from home against the teams most people would think we should be beating, so the confidence from a good performance and decent result could be invaluable coming up to Christmas.
Sandy knows we need to pick up some points to widen the gap beaten us and relegation spots and is quoted in the press saying as much.

"We go into the heavy part of the season soon, and I want a certain amount of points to go into that period with."

Airdrie go in to the game with a few un-named niggles that are going to be given late fitness tests, other than that Sandy hopes to be able to chse from his full squad in the morning

With all the rain in Airdrie at the moment there has been no indication that the game could be in any doubt.

 Opponents News

Falkirk

John Hughes has no new injury worries in the Falkirk squad for tomorrows game, but with them now being made favourites to take the 1st Division Championships his biggest fear his how his squad deals with it.

"Everywhere I look I see people saying Falkirk are the team to beat and that's a big change since the start of this season. The fans are going along with that and we need to make sure we handle it."

The Bairns also have another concern, the free scoring team at the beginning of the season seems to be struggling t find the back of the net and looking at some of the Falkirk websites it sounds as though many of them would take a draw at the moment.

 Ref Review

John Rowbotham

Games: 7 Yellow Cards: 13 Red Cards: 1

Last season John Rowbothom was in charge of our fixture against Hamilton in March last year where we won 1-0 there was only one booking during the match and it went to Hamilton so all in all I can't give him a bad report, Yet!

Last seasons record: Games: 37 Yellow Cards: 93 Red Cards: 8

 Prediction

Would like a win but will be happy with a scoring draw. 2-2 it is.
