I would like to let everyone know that the so called "cuddly toy" of Scottish football had the stuffing knocked out of it at the weekend thanks to a comprehensive 4 - 2 victory for the Diamonds. We have known for years that this is a misomer and surely now all of Scottish football will realise this too after the thugish behaviour of the Maryhillians which resulted in the ordering off of two of their players.I noticed that the Thistle management were at pains to point out that we too should have had a man sent off .I will admit that we were fortunate not to have big Mad Mental Hardie sent off after he lived up to his name and miss timed a tackle but hey we have had our share of bad refereeing decisions in the past and it makes a change to have a decision made in our favour. Such is the bitterness between the two sets of fans that for most Airdrieonians our matches against Thistle can be compared to a Lanarkshire derby against the unmentionables and so it goes without saying that these fixtures are fiercely contested and Saturday was no exception. This match had everything that the Scottish football fan appreciates .The match was played in a derby like atmosphere with both sets of fans giving one another pelters , we wittnessed six goals , two ordering offs , over the top tackleing and on field bust ups , but the most pleasing aspect of the afternoon was that the man that all Patick fans love to hate , Owen Coyle , netted a brace which meant the DIamonds left the field victorious and over 1, 000 Thistle fans went home in the huff, SUPERB.!!!!!!!!!!!.
