Anyway, Airdrie started the game well enough going with the old adage "attack is the best form of defence". At least it seemed so for 20 minutes. In that spell we had a couple of good chances with Singbo having a shot cleared off the line. Airdrie's front three were looking lively, as were Dunn and Marv in the midfield. Defensively though Scooby was very 'gingerly' in the centre with Willie Wilson, Doc and Singbo all at sea. Eventually Morton got at us and Doc conceded a corner that could have been dealt with more efficiently but to my amazement Mark McGeown and Woosh Wilson were having a what can only be described as a 'heated' debate on the goalline. As they were pushing and pulling at each other Stuart Greacen outjumped Scooby head the ball through McGeown's legs. Roberts then set up Vareille with a delightful pass but the Frenchie's shot was saved at the near post. Life in the old dogs yet? Not on your nelly. 2 pieces of amateurish defending later and we're three down. It's fair to say that Willie Wilson emptied our stadium quicker than an outbreak of ebola would have.

At that stage, half an hour into the game, Sandy's jacket was dropped and he was furiously howling instuctions to Willie Wilson and Singbo. Finally McGowan was brought into the centre with Singbo and Woosh going as wingbacks. The tide was stemmed till halftime as Airdrie fought back, driven on by Dunn and Marv. Firstly Varielle was sent clear but he shot tamely from 20 yards instead of taking the ball on a bit. Then Roberts rounded the keeper but twice struck the first defender when aiming for goal.

I badly wanted to see Dosser on for Roberts, and Glancy on for Singbo at half time because in all honesty I didn't think it was beyond us to scrape back into the game. Our forwards and midfield were still working feverishly to drive us on but defensive lapses sent us further back. Firstly Dunn was furious as another misplaced pass let in Morton for a fourth, Dunn was a sight furiously venting his anger at the guilty culprit, then another Greacan header had us reeling at five down. The introduction of Dosser and Glancy for Roberts and Willie Wilson did improve our chances going forward but Morton's sixth, a freekick from way out on the left that Singbo miskicked and McGeown missed, summed up our day. Dosser pulled one back late on as the team kept trying.
