A fine header from Edgar 5 minutes from time gave Airdrie 3 good points in a well fought contest.

Airdrie made 1 change to the side which won at Forest with Ross Graham replacing Morrison who was working. With 20 players available for selection the manager opted to leave Capaldi, Leishman, Ferguson and Stewart out

For the best part Hogganfield were the best side in the first half with their midfield winning the battle on a heavy park and Rowan had to look sharp on 2 or 3 occasions. It was no surprise when they took the lead after 25. A throw in wasn’t dealt with and in the scramble in the box the number 9 deflected a shot into the net. Airdrie responded well and after the keeper pulled of a fine save from Kenny his brother smashed home the equaliser from the ensuing corner.1-1ht

The second half saw a much better performance from Airdrie. From the restart Shaw beat 3 men only for the keeper to save well and for the first 15 minutes Airdrie upped the tempo. However on the break Hogganfield were dangerous and the turning point of the game came when Rowan pulled of a fine penalty stop from the number6. With Brown and Gray on for Ross Graham and Lindsay Airdrie surged forward in the last 20 minutes and missed 4,5 good chances. With 10 to play Torrens came on for Kenny Pardoe and his pace caused problems. Airdrie secured the winner with 5 to go, A corner from Torrens was missed and Edgar dived in to bury the chance from 6 yards. 2-1ft

On their second half showing Airdrie deserved the 3 points but the away team put in a good showing especially in the first half when they were the better team. But 6 out of 6 for Airdrie and credit for sticking at it when it looked like one of those days when the chances aren’t taken. However a hard game waits next week with a difficult away tie to NC united.
