Greenhills 1 AS Airdrie 3
Airdrie finished their league campaign with a hard fought win against greenhills.2 goals from Kenny and a fine strike by his brother ensured Airdrie finished 2nd in the league 7 points behind champions Blochairn.
With Edgar, capaldi and gray missing through injury and grant, Stewart and Morrison unavailable Airdrie had a tough task ahead against a good Greenhills team. With the manager away fishing humo and myself selected the team and reverted back to our 3-4-1-2 formation
the first half saw the home team have the majority of the play and they missed a couple of good chances.airdrie also had chances and Kenny and Shaw passed up a couple. Goals in the first half came from Kenny after 22 when he chipped the keeper then his brother Neil after 35 with a fine strike into the top corner.
Second half saw a similar pattern to the first. Chances fell to Shaw who had about 3,Kenny and smithy. After an hour Airdrie made it 3 when Kenny converted a penalty after being brought down. However the home team scored a fine goal with 20 to go and then piled on the pressure against a tiring Airdrie although the away team could have wrapped it up with 10 to go but rg missed a penalty
another great effort by the guys especially with the team we had. To come and win 3-1 away to Greenhills was very pleasing, as we have struggled in the past against them. We might not be the best side to look at but time and time again we get results due to hard work, determination and taking chances, which come our way, and to finish the campaign conceding just 25 goals is a credit to the whole team. By finishing second we have beat last year’s performance and it is no disgrace to finish behind Blochairn who proved they were the best team this year. With the league cup won it’s been a good season and we have something to build on in the pre season. Hopefully some fresh legs to add to a squad that gave its all especially in the last 3 weeks when we had a pile of games
for today my mom was smithy for his non stop running and energy although Shaw had another fine game and gave the home defence problems all game with his pace.
