Shawbridge 4-2 AS Airdrie
An under strength Airdrie fell to their second league defeat in a row.3 goals in the last 25 minutes saw the home team overcome a 2-1 deficit at halftime.
Airdrie made 3 changes from Saturday. Out went Cooper, Ross Graham and Capaldi and in came Shaw, Morrison and trialist Paul Scanlan with MacFarlane, Stewart and Gray on the bench.
The home team started stronger and took the lead from the penalty spot after a shove from Scanlan inside the area. Rowan then pulled off a good save from a header. Airdrie drew level when Shaw ran by 2 men and passed for Kenny to fire in his 13th of the season.5 minutes later good play from Shaw down the left saw his ball into the box knocked into the net by a Shaw’s defender. The rest of the half saw little in the way of goalmouth action.
Second half saw 1 change with MacFarlane on for Kenny. Airdrie were pretty comfortable for 20 minutes until a corner wasn’t dealt with and a shot on goal struck Scotty on the arm.2nd penalty and number 9 scored again. Within 5 minutes it was 3-2 when the striker beat the offside trap to round rowan and stroke the ball into the net. Stewart, on for Clark, then missed a good chance and Shaw nearly scored the equaliser. With 15 to go Shaw’s were awarded another penalty when Burton pulled the man down in the box although the ref missed the tug on his jersey initially. Again the number 9 scored for an unlikely hattrick. Airdrie tried to push with Gray on for the last 10 but the home side held out and were deserved winners in the end.
The effort again was great especially from guys like Edgar, Grant, Scott Graham and Neil Pardoe who have played non stop for the last 4 games. With all the changes at the back and upfront it was no surprise that the last 20 saw shawbridge finish stronger as they brought on fresh legs and 100% fit players. We wish mark and shawbridge all the best in their final against Clydebank United. For Airdrie the big game is the final on Saturday. With Smith, Ross Graham and Gray declaring themselves fit and Cooper, Capaldi and Morrison available the manager's have a few hard selections to make. MOM tonight for Shaw who has got better in every game and should be a valuable asset next season.
