John Green
Right Hand Batsman / Right Arm Fast Medium Bowler
Nicknames: Johnny Bravo, Greeny
The 2006 season will be his sixth with Clay Cross after being one of the many players who joined from Stonebroom at the beginning of 2001. He had an unsettled start to his Clay Cross career, in and out of the first team during his first season then was made Second X1 captain in 2002. However since Richard Greenhalgh took over as First X1 skipper, Bravo became a permanent fixture in his plans and he’s played first team cricket ever since. A bustling quick bowler he has a similar action to England’s Simon Jones, and does get the ball to move in the air and off the seam. He loves batting and often makes his feelings known about how he should be batting higher in the order. He possesses great power and when he connects the ball goes a long way, he is particularly strong through the leg side. John is also an excellent fielder arguably one of the best in the club.
It is often joked that Greeny has had more clubs then Tiger Woods but he seems to be enjoying his time at the Cross Bowl. His son Jack has recently joined the youth academy and it looks like he will follow in his father’s footsteps by possessing the tendency to try and smash the ball over the mid wicket/ cow corner areas.
