RMI made the better start to the game with Maamria nearly giving them the lead after five minutes, with a nearly perfect lob that just missed the target. Morecambe soon got into the game and just before halftime, came within an inch of taking the lead, when Danny Carlton's strike was brilliantly tipped around the post by Leigh 'keeper Stuart Coburn.
The second half belonged to the leythers, dominating possesion and coming close to scoring several times. On 53 minutes Maamria was brought down in the area by Morecambe's Keith Hill, who was sent off. Maamria stepped up to convert the penalty himself but the ball came back off the crossbar. But 18 minutes later, Maamria made amends for his penalty miss when he made no mistake from close range.
Overall this was a crucial win for RMI and the points will surely come in handy to secure Conference football next season at Hilton Park.
