Leythers are coming home!

Hilton Park
By Matt Lawton August 27 2008
After having to endure a two match exile at Chorley's Victory Park, Leigh Genesis have been handed a huge boost ahead of Tuesday's huge derby with Prescot Cables with the news that the UniBond Premier League inspection committee have passed Hilton Park pitch playable for league football.

Although Hilton Park was able to host a single Genesis pre-season fixture against Woodley Sports, the UniBond League inspection committee ruled on the eve of the season that the Hilton Park pitch was unfit to host UniBond Premier League football, and as such the Leythers found themselveshaving to play twenty miles away in Chorley for the 3-0 win over Ashton United and the 2-1 defeat to Ilkeston Town.

Since then, the club have invested in substantial pitch repairs to ensure that it passes the Northern Premier League's strict criteria and therefore able to host league football once more.

Chorley FC have proven to be particularly welcoming hosts, but the move back to Leigh is obviously a massive boost for the club as they continue to wait for the green light to take up residency at their dazzling new stadium as part of the Leigh Sports Village.

Steve Bleasdale's side have enjoyed terrific vocal support at all of their UniBond Premier League fixtures, and it is now hoped that the club's return home, particularly against their deadly rivals, will turn Hilton Park in to a raucous cauldron of passion and spur the Leythers on to another league victory.

Genesis first travel to Worksop Town's temporary home at Hucknall on Saturday, but return home next Tuesday (2nd September, 7:45pm kick off) against Prescot Cables, with admission costing £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and just £2 for under 18's.

The Leythers are back home, so get to Hilton Park and get behind the lads.

Trouble is the scrotes have raided HP 14 times in the last three weeks. It was on the front page of the reporter.....serves the rugby right for being such a bunch of dicks!
They have ruined the bar, kitchen and scoreboard.
Wouldn't have happened if genesis were playing there would it.

Probably depends on whether or not being a security guard is included in Mansaram's contract.

Should string up the little darlings and swing them from the floodlights, or possibly sacrifice them on the pitch at half-time at the Prescot game.

You say you're not a lover of the place Dave, but you'll miss it when it's gone!

The place holds many happy memories from a personal point of view and it's got to be a good thing being back in town (though obviously not as good as being straight at the LSV!).

I think it's up to us honourable messageboard posters to have as many pre-match beers as possible (Spoons from 6, join the party!) and make sure it's as good an atmosphere as possible a) to spur the team on b) scare the@#$%&out of Prescot and c) make it more enjoyable for any new supporters and therefore encourage them to come back

Drag as many people to the back of the Tommy Sale Stand and let's get the place rocking, come on Leythers!

Being pretty new to the support, although it seems longer than 6 or 7 months I understand there's going to be a lot more happier memories for then more prolonged supporters

Think the fact that we're finally back in town on tuesday will help bring in a few new faces and a bigger crowd than in chorley for obvious reasons

Think once our throats have been ahem, well lubricated in the local public houses we'll be in full song. Lets get there early so the players know theyre home as soon as they step onto the pitch

Couldn't agree more. A huge round of "oh Leigh" when they enter the field followed by one big "we only hate Prescot Cables"!

Got to get the full range out on Sunday; this is how it feels to be Prescot, this is how it feels to be small...

Firstly, regardless of whether we have played our last two games at Chorley, shudnt the rugby team at least know when our home fixtures are so theres no clashes

Secondly, why the @#$%& do we have to relocate a league game for a @#$%& reserve game

Thirdly, its nice of the Rugby to turn round and say "since you've got a competitive league game, we'll play at the harriers instead"

@#$%& off again because of the Rugby team

It seems that they nipped in to arrange the fixture in the period that the pitch wasn't up to scratch to host a game. Very, very annoyed and disappointed with a rugby club that I have supported home and away for the past sixteen years.

I think it's probably best that we don't get in to that as there's good enough arguments from each side of the fence. Personally, I'm glad that I still had a rugby team to support and ended up with a football club representing my home town in the process!

I think we just have to be careful who we p1ss off to be honest as the rugby fans are certainly the ones we need to attract to our games over the winter.

Matt, you're sadly disillusioned if you think that the football team can attract the rugby team crowds. They haven't managed it in the previous 12 years of being there so whats going to change over this winter?
They are now taking the p1ss because they know they can, puts the footy on the back foot going into the new stadium BUT
Fact is that at the LSV the rugby will not be in charge so they WON'T be able to do this again. It's run by the LSV not the rugby or football.
Lets see what happens in the future but don't think that the rugby crowd will change overnight, we need football fans there not rugby fans coming for a look.....

I brought along three rugby fans to the game last night who were seeing LGFC for the first time and they said that they'd definitely come back, while I have generally been a rugby fan first and foremost so it is possible for the rugby to help boost our crowds, though that doesn't change how p1ssed off I am at the current situation.
