Club stalwart released

Andy Heald
By Matt Lawton August 20 2008
Leigh footballing stalwart Andy Heald has been released from Leigh Genesis, ending a lengthy association with the club that began with his Leigh RMI debut against Hayes in the Nationwide Conference in August 2001, taking in many changes since that day.

After starting his career as a youngster with then-Conference side Morecambe, Heald joined his hometown club in the summer of 2001, making his competitive debut in a Nationwide Conference game against Hayes in August 2001.

Heald established himself as a crowd favourite during a successful spell at Hilton Park before leaving the club to join first Stalybridge Celtic and later Radcliffe Borough before rejoining Leigh in March 2007, scoring two goals in thirty five appearances during the 2007/08 season.

Heald made several appearances during Genesis' pre-season programme but has now been released to rejoin Radcliffe Borough, the second spell of his career at Stainton Park.

On behalf of the Leigh supporters, I'd like to thank Healdy for his hard work and effort during his time with the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.

Wasn't aware that he'd gone back to Radcliffe, just that he's been released.

Shame to see one of the old guard go but I suppose he wasn't likely to have much of a first team chance this season.

yah but to come off the bench in some matches and be around the team would have been good, but healdy would want to play regularly

I remember his first match....fresh faced and keen. We happily took the mick at a phoetus playing for us (he was about 6 at the time) but he matured into a good player.

Nice bloke too.

Exactly - at that sort of stage in his career it wouldn't do him much good to be sat on the bench, he needs as much game time as possible while he still can.
