Although Simm has chosen to join a side nearer to his Leigh home for the time being, Wrexham boss Brian Carey is reportedly keen to keep tabs on his progress at Hyde with a view to inviting him back to the Racecourse Ground in the future after the 23 year old striker impressed during his trial spell, setting up a Dragons goal in a friendly against a strong Blackburn Rovers side whilst hitting the net in a 2-1 victory over Caersws last Friday.
While Hyde fans will be excited at the prospect of Simm of teaming up with the prolific Gareth Seddon, Simm will find himself among familiar faces at Ewen Fields with boss Steve Waywell being a former Hilton Park stalwart, while no less than three other former RMI players are already with the Tigers in the shape of Craig Dootson, Gerry Harrison and Neil Tolson.
Simm will no doubt be best remembered by Leigh supporters for his, albeit at times frustrating, striking talent that has seen him top the Hilton Park goalcharts for the past two seasons, including his seventy yard solo effort in a 3-1 victory over Harrogate Town on Boxing Day 2005, probably the greatest goal ever seen at Hilton Park.
Such was his popularity amongst the Hilton Park faithful, Simm is likely to receive a warm reception for his new side when he returns to the ground where he made his name, although such sentiments will no doubt be put aside for ninety minutes.
Maybe he will catch Steve McClaren's eye at Hyde, as was so often the call at Hilton Park?
