After Tuesday night’s well-deserved 3-1 home win over Blyth Spartans, Stuart Humphreys’ side were full of confidence as they travelled to Redditch, with the Worcestershire town holding happy memories for the side after winning there 2-1 in their first ever Conference North encounter on the opening day of last season.
While RMI went in to the game with a five point cushion between themselves and third bottom Scarborough, Redditch found themselves heading for the last chance saloon in twenty first place, though a victory would put them straight back in to contention for a Conference North spot next season, such is the lack of breathing space at the bottom of the table.
Although Kevin Rapley scored his third RMI goal in the second half, earlier Redditch strikes from Scott Rickards and veteran striker Carl Heggs gave the home side victory and reduce RMI’s safety cushion to just two points; a little too close for comfort ahead of yet another so-called “six pointer” when Vauxhall Motors are the visitors to Hilton Park on Friday evening.
