Mowbray confident on Phillips deal
By Jemma Tappenden June 9 2008
Albion boss Tony Mowbray is reportedly confident that striker Kevin Phillips will remain at the Hawthorns next season. Contract talks between the player and club have been ongoing since January, with Phillips said to be looking for a two year deal. Chairman Jeremy Peace has so far stuck to his guns over Phillips, reiterating that at present 12 months is all the club are prepared to offer.

The Baggies top striker has been linked with a number of possible moves, most notably with Premiership outfit Wigan Athletic and late last week with recently relegated Derby County.

Contacts close to Phillips had suggested over the weekend that a move to Pride Park might suit the 34 year old striker, who could avoid uprooting his family now based in the Midlands, and most importantly get the two year deal he is seeking.

Phillips’ agent however has suggested that Phillips will talk to Albion and try and resolve the contract offer before even considering offers from other clubs.  But the player remains adamant that only a two year contract will do.

And the previous season. Bit stuck on this one Jane to be truthfull. Can see both sides here. would love to see him stay but his wages could be used else where if he is to be a bit part player.

It was the same with big Dave. Great servant but you can't afford to be sentimental with the wages these players are on a week, these days. We keep super Kev for two years, that is tying up a lot of Money. Would prefer to see a year and some type of coaching role promised for the second. If he would accept that type of deal of course.
