Born in South Korea in 1982, the midfielder make a professional move into football in 2001 when he signed for Suwon Samsung Bluewings.  Regular football finally brought him and his side success in 2004 when the Bluewings won the 2004 Korean Championship.  Recognition of his success was three fold, earning him a move to Seongnam Ilhwa Chumna in June 2005, a call up to the Under-23s national side and a place in South Korea’s Olympic side who finished second in Group A, and reached the quarter finals before being defeated by silver medallists Paraguay.   

Despite injury tainting his international career, Kim scored once in five appearances for South Korea during the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.  This was enough to secure his services for the competition in Germany, but he faced stiff competition from Park Ji-Sung.  The latter being the fans and coaches favourite, Kim Do-Heon did not feature in any of his countries World Cup fixtures.   

Kim’s move to West Bromwich Albion will see him face a former rival from South Korea in the Championship, Charlton Athletic’s Zheng Zhi.
