McLaren sign new sponsorship deal

No more West
By Josh Barnett February 24 2005
McLaren have signed a sponsorship deal that will se them bare the Johnnie Walker whisky livery from the Turkish Grand Prix onwards.

The 'striding man' logo will appear on the engin covers of their cars from the Turkish Grand Prix on August 21.

The deal strikes the end of their long-term with tobacco manufacturers which started in the mid seventies with Marlboro and changed to current sponsor West in 1997.

The long-term deal with the scotch whisky brand will not be part of the title of the team as it as with West.

Chairman of McLaren, Ron Dennis appeared to be pleased with the new deal when he said:

"McLaren is supported by highly-valued, long-term partnerships with some of the world's most distinguished brand names. We're delighted to welcome Johnnie Walker to join this group."

The deal comes a couple of weeks after McLaren unveiled their 2005 racer, the MP4/20.
