Allinson Given Contract

Allinson Given Contract
By Andrew Collins June 29 2008
Scrum half, Darren Allinson, has been given a Cardiff Blues development contract following a successful season as part of the Blues academy. It means fans are likely to be seeing much more of the talented youngster, with Jason Spice now 33.

The 20 year old has impressed in his first two seasons with Cardiff RFC, where he's contested the number 9 jersey with other hotly tipped youngster, Luke Evans and former RFC captain, Owen Ruttley.

Having come through those tests with flying colours, Allinson wore the Blues shirt on 3 occasions last year, most notably in the home win over the Newport Gwent Dragons, where he came on to have a superb 20 minutes.

He'll have to step up another level again however, if he is going to dislodge either 2nd choice Ritchie Rees, or Kiwi Spice. With Spice entering his final season with Cardiff. It's likely we will see more of Allinson and Rees in the Magner's League, as the duo battle out for 2nd choice, and essentially, a contract to play at the new stadium.

Earlier this week, The Blues lost out on their attempts to sign South African scrum half Fourie Du Preez, while they have been linked with Maa' Nonu and Piri Weepu, both of whom are out of contract before Christmas. Rumours at the moment suggest that Weepu is the man most likely to replace Spice in time for next season.

There are more youth players expected to be named in the full squad in the next few weeks, with fans set to see far more of Wales' under 20 captain, Sam Warburton as well as highly rated winger cum full back Leigh Halfpenny.

Ye definately, im a big fan of cardiff rfc and he stands out every game with his individual talent and looking forward to seeing more of him in the Blues jersey.
Wouldnt this be a proffessional contract though as he signed a development a couple years ago??

It was an acadamy contract he was on, but he's now been given a development contract, the next step is proffessional i believe. Anyone know if this is correct?
