Response From Mr Griffiths

Response From Mr Griffith
By Andrew Collins May 29 2008
Following a series of e-mails between myself and Mr Griffiths, I can now post the responses on stadium issues. TheArmsPark.co.uk would like to thank Gwydion Griffiths for his fast responding and for attempting to answer the questions.

Sent: 24th May 2008

Dear Mr. Griffiths,

My name is Andrew Collins and I run the Cardiff Blues fans site theArmsPark.co.uk. Having just read the confirmation that the Blues will play all of their home matches at Cardiff City FC's ground from 2009 onwards, I was wondering if you could release more details of the move to the fans and shareholders that visit my site.

Any information on the following questions would be greatly appreciated by my sites visitors, most of who are yet to be convinced that this is the best move to push the region forwards.

  • How much basic rent will Cardiff RFC Ltd. be paying per annum, and how much of match day income will also be paid to Cardiff City FC?
  • Will there be any permanent Cardiff Blues branding around the ground, or will it only be temporary as expected?
  • Will the region share the club shop with Cardiff City, or will we be forced to assemble a tent on match days?
  • How much can fans expect match day tickets to cost following the move?
  • Will tickets be sold from a joined ticket office, r will that solely belong to CCFC?

There are many fans feeling upset by the move, and angry that their opinions have not been taken into account during the talks with CCFC. Many people have voiced concerns over the ground rental, and are all keen to hear more details regarding the move. Any information regarding the above questions would be greatly appreciated, and I'm sure all the sites visitors are looking forward to your response.

Many thanks,

Andrew Collins

Dear Mr Collins,

Thank you for your email.

The board decided that the move was effectively a management board decision and did discuss it with leading members of supporters' organisations and made it clear that this was an option we were looking at. We also made a large presentation to shareholders in our limited company AGM and we continue to welcome any constructive views from our supporters.

We also published a Tripartite Statement on Leckwith Stadium will was posted on http://www.cardiffblues.com/ on 18 September 2007 and in the Glasgow match programme Friday 21 September.

Further information will be published on the website and a leaflet regarding the stadium will be sent out to 2008/09 season ticket applicants and distributed in events that the Cardiff Blues will be attending over the summer. The leaflet will contain answers to the question you ask below.

Yours sincerely

Gwydion Griffiths

Dear Mr Griffiths,

Thank you for your swift response, it's nice to know that the region is taking it's fans seriously.

With regard to your response, it's certainly good to know that there will be an information leaflet, I know a lot of the site's visitors will be eager to get hold of one as soon as possible. However, I'm not exactly convinced that this years AGM could be considered a presentation, other than a presentation of how AGM's shouldn't be conducted! Nor do I think that the supporters club represents a large canvas of supporters, however I can appreciate that some efforts were made to approach us.

While I very much appreciate your response, I'm not sure the main questions were answered. Will the supporters, or at very least the shareholders, be made aware of rent costs, stadium identity and terms of agreement that we have signed with CCFC and the council.

I look forward to hearing from you, again many thanks,

Andrew Collins

Dear Andrew,

Thanks for your positive response.

I was referring to the Cardiff RFC Limited AGM. were you referring to the Cardiff Athletic Club AGM?

The questions in your original email will be answered in the leaflet. I hope you appreciate that we must sent it out to our supporters before it is posted on other websites.

Best regards

Gwydion

Dear Gwydion,

Again, thanks for your quick responses, I do appreciate it. I completely understand that the information must go through CRFC Ltd. first, and think that it's certainly the right way for the club to talk to its fans.

In the meantime, do would you mind me posting the e-mails you have sent to me on my website, (theArmsPark.co.uk) so that the visitors are aware of the situation?

Again, many thanks for your co-operation,

Andrew Collins

Dear Andrew,

Yes, I am happy for you to post the reply on your website.

I must note however that you sent the original email on Saturday 24 May and then posted again on the website on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May:

"Still no response from the man CRFC Ltd employ to talk to the press. I cant beging to imagine why he wouldn't want to talk to the fans about this great move that the region is making.

The only way i' ever get a response from GG would be by e-mailing him a love letter."

I did reply to you when I returned to the office on Tuesday 27 May so no need for a love letter.

Best regards

Gwydion

In fairness, that was my own e-mail, so I haven't been able to publish yours without your permission. Also, you have failed to reply to me before, while others have had the same problem, not just people on my site, http://forum.gwladrugby.com/showthread.php?t=118823, so forgive me for not holding much optimism.

However, thanks very much for your co-operation on this occasion at least,

Andrew Collins

Loving the banter between the two of you.
He's very shifty in answering questions. Maybe you should try with the love letter.

Personally, I'm dreading the ground-share. Cardiff's football and rugby fans have never seen eye to eye - we've often regarded eachother as rivals; and there's certaintly a lot of competition for crowds.

It's a battle they're currently winning.
We won't pull it back as tenants in their MDF stadium which is going to look like Swansea's soulless shithole.

Paul.
