C2A Call SGM
The action taken that evening was to create an action group of 32 CAC members, in order to launch a vote of no confidence in the current set up, and call a SGM (Special General Meeting).
Things from here do get a little complicated at times, so hopefully this article will clear things up a bit, and allow you o know the facts and truths about Cardiff Athletic Club (CAC), and Call To Arms (C2A).
A CAC member is anyone who has purchased a Cardiff RFC season ticket this year. Membership on a basic level this year allows fans go to CRFC matches as well as entry to the downstairs bar of the club house. However, what's really important about CAC membership, is it allows you a say in the running of the Club, or at least, it's meant to.
Rules state that should 30 names sign a vote of no confidence in the current board members, a SGM must be called, hence the need for that number of names.
The basis for the 32 casting their vote was mainly what they feel to be the company failing to upkeep the heritage shares. These include things such as wearing blue and black, as well as playing at the Cardiff Arms Park.
At the SGM, it is the job of the current board to convince it's members that they are upholding the rules and aims of the company. If they fail, they are swiftly replaced.
However, in what is seen as a stalling tactic by CAC, they wrote the following letters back to the 32 petitioners, asking instead for an informal chat to explain their position.
Letter part 1 and Letter part 2.
The following letter is taken from http://www.calltoarms.co.uk/ and was sent as a reply to CAC by the 32.
Dear Sir,
Firstly, we'd like to begin this letter by expressing our deepest regret at the way the management committee has conspired with the board of Cardiff RFC Ltd to move the Cardiff Blues away from Cardiff Arms Park. We believe this is a serious mistake and undermines members' trust in the board. It further resolves our demand for a Special General Meeting.
As a members' organisation, the Cardiff Athletic Club Management Committee has a responsibility to represent the views of its members. We believe the committee is now failing in this responsibility. As the majority of members are from the rugby section, we believe that these members should have a greater say in how the Management Committee of CAC behaves.
Following your comments on the question of 1996 (now, more than 10 years out of date) the most important thing for members was to "secure first class rugby for Cardiff and the long term future of the club". By allowing the Cardiff Blues to leave Cardiff Arms Park, CAC has clearly failed in this responsibility. We do not consider the premiership as first class rugby. We regard European competition as first class rugby.
CAC has failed to exert influence over the running of Cardiff RFC Ltd., as evidenced by the recent announcement on the move to Leckwith. We believe CAC should be working with other directors and shareholders (both on and off the board) to build partnerships which will ensure the heritage of the club is maintained.
As the major shareholder, we believe CAC should increase its role in the day to day running of the club.
Thank you for an offer of a meeting with myself and the other 31 signatories. However, we would like to reiterate our desire for change within the structure of CAC and its relationship with Cardiff RFC Ltd.
We urge you to announce the date of the Special General Meeting.
Yours faithfully.
So why are C2A doing this?
Well, once at the SGM, they hope to remove one of the 3 board members of CAC, and stand a very realistic chance of being voted into the newly vacant slot.
This is vital for the future of the two rugby sides, and will mean a far more transparent rugby club, where the supporters have a say, and a voice in a higher place. That would stop decisions such as the move to Leckwith ever being mad without our knowledge, ever again.
And, if they can do this soon, there is still a chance they can stop the move altogether.
All is not lost. Call To Arms are working very, very hard to push this through, but need your support. Just read up, read all about C2A, learn all the facts, then make up your own mind.
C2A aren't here to tell you what to think, but to make all the facts available to you, so you can make up your own mind and have your own say.
