UEFA Glory For Rhyl
By Webmaster July 28 2005
Lithuanian sour grapes could not prevent Rhyl becoming the first Welsh Premier side to ever progress past the UEFA Cup First Round. Despite losing 3-2 to FK Atlantas the Lilywhites progress on away goals following a 2-1 victory at Belle Vue a fortnight ago.
The North Walian's glory came at a price however, as early reports claim the Atlantas Manager assaulted Rhyl 'keeper Gerard McGuigan following the final whistle. This follows pre-match concerns aired by loyal Lilywhites' supporters, who commented upon the presence of racist graffiti in the Eastern European country.

Congratulations to Rhyl for reaching the second round and doing Wales and the Welsh Premier League proud. Let's hope there are no more ugly scenes and John Hulses' heroes have a safe journey home. Meanwhile, Carmarthen have the chance to join Rhyl in the second round as they take on Irish side Longford Town at Latham Park tonight. Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Carmarthen face a difficult but not impossible task. It really would be a fantastic achievment for both Welsh sides to progress, so come on Carmarthen!
