Spurs - Is this the final curtain
By The cockeral October 7 2007
Today sees Spurs travel to Merseyside when some say nothing less than a win will do. Martin Jols very future at Spurs is seemingly hanging by a thread and there is growing speculation that he will be offered the Ajax job and who could blame him if he stuck two fingers up at the Spurs board and decided to go with his dignity intact.

This raises the question of who would take over the reins until a long tern replacement is found. Long term replacement? Thats a joke really as Jol is not being given a fair crack of being 'Long Term' in my opinion. I would not blame him if he went though and he would go with my blessing. My gripe would be with the shoddy behaviour of some of the Board.
There is another interesting parallel with todays game and a demse of a previous manager at Spurs. About ten years ago the head of Christian Gross was on the block as he took a team to Merseyside in an attempt to get some points and keep his job. An underperforming England goalkeeper (ian Walker) was blamed by Gross for some of the problems and a change was made, drafting Espen Baardsen in. baardsen had a blinder, Spurs battled and won 1-0  but it was not enough to prevent Gross from purhasing a Tube ticket to Heathrow and back to Grasshoppers.
If history repeats itself, even a win on Merseyside may not be enough to save Jol but Win or Lose I think Jols departure would be premature and wrong.
We need results but in my opinion what is more important is some stability or we will be stuck with a second rate caretaker for the rest of the season.
