Turkey Practice 3: McLaren 7th and 12th
By Sam Cooper May 10 2008
McLaren looked very strong in the first two practice sessions yesterday, both Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen finished within a couple of tenths of a second a lap slower than the two Ferrari’s, an improvement on the last race in Barcelona. Today’s final practice session is hard to read, due to the very mixed finishing order, placing Mark Webber on top of the timesheets.

Red Bulls Mark Webber topped the timesheets for the third and final practice session for this years Turkish Grand Prix. The Australian had a poor start to this years race weekend, when he crashed into the barrier at the exit of turn eight. Renault’s Fernando Alonso followed the Australian to the flag in second.

In third was the sister Red Bull of David Coulthard just one tenth shy of his teammates best time. Finishing behind him was Williams’ Nico Rosberg, though were guessing that Williams wont be that fast in Qualifying, the top three teams (Ferrari, McLaren and BMW) usually do laps with race fuel, to simulate the final part of qualifying, as they don’t have to worry about getting into Q3, due to their superior cars.

Turkey specialist Felipe Massa was fifth for Ferrari, the fastest of the big four, reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen ended the session in 11th place. With Toyota’s Jarno Trulli just a tenth behind Massa in 5th, Timo Glock finished eighth ahead of Honda’s Jenson Button.

Lewis Hamilton was 7th, the McLarens suffering from the unpredictable gusty wind, leaving them six tenths of a second behind pacesetter Mark Webber. Hamilton’s teammate, Heikki Kovalainen, was 12th, the Flying Fin fully recovered from his horrifying shunt.

Times from the session are showed below.
