Torrential rain hampered day 4 of testing in Spain considerably. The heavens opened just before the track did and there was a further thunder storm in the afternoon. The eight remaining teams only had a small spell possible of dry running late in the morning and towards the end of the afternoon.
Mark Webber, in the RB4 topped the time sheets while trying out some new aero parts. He was over a second and a half faster than second placed man Heikki Kovalainen in the McLaren. Heikki was unfortunate, with his first appearance at this testing session coinciding with the atrocious weather and he didn’t even manage 34 laps.
Kimi Raikkonen could only manage the same so both head into next weekend’s race with limited experience of their car’s updates in comparison to their team mates. The day was frustrating for all the drivers. The Honda of Jenson Button finished fifth behind BMW’s Kubica after completing 41 laps.
Just behind him was Nakajima in the Williams who did manage to get in 62 laps worth of set-up work. Nelson Piquet didn’t get as much time in with the team’s heavily updated R28 car but he still feels sure that enough has been done to be well prepared for the Spanish Grand Prix. Jarno Trulli did not venture out on dry tyres at all and only completed 18 laps.
