Anna Kournikova, who is struggling to get first round victories in the Sanex WTA tour, will be hoping for a recovery in playing tournaments on somewhat lower level. The 21 year-old Russian Kournikova who reached a careerhigh ranking at #8 in 2000 was forced to retire when she played Conchita Martinez at the recent Family Circle Cup. Kournikova left the court with an injury to her left adductor muscle.
Kournikova is still looking for a WTA singles victory but had setbacks because of various injuries. She managed to win 16 doubles victories and two Grand Slam doubles with Martina Hingis. Kournikova has won two ITF singles tournaments in Midland TX and Rockford Ill.USA both were accomplished in 1996.
