We didn't deserve to go 2-0 down at half time in fact I thought we were very unlucky to be behind at all. Their first goal was well worked though and a Torpey flick helped the kid to run onto it and tuck home the shot. Scunny's second was just a killer for my confidence, just a low driven shot, taking a wicked deflection and after Howie had already committed himself, the ball just ran over the line...2-0.
The second half saw us come out with something to prove to the fans, and a ball up field flicked on by the superb Paul Tate for Robbie Quinn to guide the ball home with his head to get us back in the game. From then on it was all Rovers, this was truly was something we haven't seen in years, we just didn't stop fighting! Rovers were throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them. I have to admit, I was setting myself up for a defeat and was trying to look on the positive side of our performance... Then came the penalty, basically Justin Richards did ever so well to nudge the ball onto Mark McKeever, he was left with the open goal, however, the Scunny defender swept his legs and a penalty was given! Carlisle blasted the penalty and the 'keeper got a hand to it...then the ball just rolled over the line to send the Gasheads behind the goal into dream land!
The Rovers fans were absolutely fantastic throughout and although we were due a long trip back, we were safe in the knowledge that our boys were totally committed to the cause, unlike our last bunch of players but that’s another story that should be best forgotten!
So are The Gas back? Who knows? I feel we are on the right track and that Ray Graydon and John Still are building a strong side that looks very hard too beat. So my message to every Gashead out there is stick with them, I know I will.
