Hayles goes against Lee to score - Millwall Report

Furious
By Scott Cooper September 14 2005
IN the 93rd minute at Molineux on Tuesday night Millwall won the ball in midfield. Millwall boss Colin Lee instructed his players to take the ball into the corner to waste valuable time....Barry Hayles had other ideas.

A draw would have been a disaster, a defeat unthinkable, but at 10pm on Tuesday night the unthinkable was being thought with a last minute Barry Hayles goal subjecting Wolves to their first defeat since, ironically, Millwall last season.

It's just the third defeat for Wolves and Hoddle since the former England coach took over in his first game against Millwall way back in December 2004.

However rarely can a side managed by Glenn Hoddle play so poorly as his side did on Tuesday night. Wolves controlled the majority of the game but poor finishing, a lack of desire and a Millwall striker going against his' bosses decision to keep the ball in the corner cost Wolves dear.

"Our lack of professionalism late on meant we caused our own problems. It's a killer for us but it was self inflicted."

"There is still something wrong with this team that we've got to put right." Fumed Hoddle after the game.

Wolves lost Darren Anderton mid-way though the first half at which point Wolves were controlling the game. A Carl Cort header from a nice Jackie McNamara cross had given Wolves the lead, but both Kennedy and Seol had been gifted chances, but both failed to his the back of the net.

Former Wolves boss Jermain Wright equalised with a smashing volley shortly after the removal of Darren Anderton before Barry Hales earned a surprised win for the visitors in the last minute.

"Disappointment is an understatement," Hoddle added.
